ABOUT THE AWARDS

NOW IN ITS 11TH YEAR, THE AWARDS
COMPETITION IS WELL ESTABLISHED.

Telekom’s strength comes from a combination of many aspects including its good network and the ability to attract attention & interest for our products & services. This is, of course, driven by our marketing communications & media activities across Europe and the USA. Our marketing communications & media teams show passion for what they do - driving our brands to success in many inspiring and innovative ways. Therefore creating synergies by sharing best practices and learnings among the NatCos is very important to us and one of the pillars of our work at DTAG GBM (Group Brand Management & Marketing Communications).

The Telekom Media & Communications Awards is a useful program to facilitate the sharing and bringing together of our international community. It is a company internal competition that focuses on marketing communications, media & PR campaigns aired during the last year and creates a platform for achieving recognition, attention and visibility. The competition exists since 2006.
In 2016, 126 entries across 9 categories were submitted by all Telekom units. 76 online jurors from the headquarters, NatCos and agencies had the difficult task to reduce the entries to 27 shortlist campaigns. A video was then produced for each finalist. In the end, a group of 13 final jury members selected the winners after watching and discussing every shortlist campaign. An Awards workshop gives participants the opportunity to see all shortlisted campaign videos, discuss learnings and possible relevance for their own markets under the mottos of “share and reapply”. The winners of each category as well as the overall winner “Campaign of the year” are revealed during an evening Gala event.

PROCESS & TIMING

1. CALL FOR ENTRIES:
14 Nov 2016 – 13 Jan 2017

The call for entries opens on 14 Nov 2016 and closes on 13 Jan 2017. Make sure to enter your campaigns during this period! As in the past, we will help you to submit selected campaigns to external Awards by using an external writer to put the finishing touches to the most promising entries. The first deadline in 2017 is the Festival of Media Global (www.festivalofmedia.com/global) with submissions due in early January.

Newsflash: Make your opinion count! Become a judge in the first round online judging! If you would like to see inspiring campaigns from several markets and want to be a voice of the community during the evaluation – let us know. This year one lucky online judge can win a trip to Bonn to be part of the final judging round AS WELL AS the Awards Workshop & Gala Event in Vienna. All travel costs will be paid for by the HQ!! The lucky judge will be chosen randomly from all the participating online judges. Click here if you want to become a first round online judge.

2. SHORTLIST COMPILATION:
27 Feb 2017

Jurors, composed of selected representatives from all participating entities, will evaluate all entered campaigns and vote online for their shortlist candidates. Three shortlisted campaigns per category can be expected. Target date for shortlist announcement is 27 Feb 2017. Click here if you want to become a first round online judge.

3. VIDEO PREPARATION:
20 Mar 2017

All shortlisted campaigns will have the opportunity to compile a striking video of their entry. Exactly like last year, we would like to have two versions of the campaign video to be submitted: firstly a 2 minute video (absolute maximum of 160 seconds) for the final judging round and secondly an even shorter, 1 minute version (absolute maximum of 80 seconds) for the Gala event. All shortlisted videos that have an English voice-over, should please use Nick Bolton as the English voice-over artist in order to ensure consistency. Be aware that this year we will again be particularly strict about the time limits and may reject a video that exceeds the time limits. In addition, a short summary of the campaign will be required. Target date for video entries is 20 March 2017.

4. FINAL JUDGING:
MARCH 2017

A selected group of senior jurors will then meet in person for a full day workshop, go through all the categories and the shortlisted 2 minute videos and vote for the winners. Target date for final judging is March 2017.

5. AWARDS WORKSHOP & GALA EVENT:
APRIL 2017

The Awards Workshop has proven useful and is appreciated very much by the community. The workshop gives everyone the opportunity to get to know the shortlisted campaigns as well as gain learnings and best practices from the most excellent campaigns of 2016. In the evening we will then come together again for a gala evening event where the winners will be announced and celebrated. Target date for the Awards Workshop & Gala event: April 2017.

RULES OF ENTRY

1
The submission of entries is free of charge.

2
Permitted are all campaigns that started (went on-air) within the calendar year of 2016. Campaign ideas that were not executed cannot be entered.
3
Any Telekom subsidiary from any country can enter their campaigns. Campaigns for all brands owned by Deutsche Telekom and its subsidiaries are eligible to enter (e.g. Telekom, T-Mobile, T-Home, T-Com, Cosmote, OTE, Strato, T-Systems, tele.ring, Frog, Congstar, Simpa, Ben, Heyah, etc.)
4
The lead to organise the entry preparation lies with the local Telekom unit but can be delegated to an agency to coordinate and send off the entry. To avoid duplication (such as the same campaign being entered by several parties/agencies), please create only one joint entry per campaign that involves all participating parties. Of course all parties involved in the campaign should be credited appropriately and in case of winning a category will receive a trophy.
5
A campaign can be entered into only two categories. You will find all categories and their descriptions within the section “Categories”. As your campaign will have a better chance of reaching the shortlist if it is correctly matched with the correct category, we strongly recommend to tailor each entry to the specifics of the category.
6
Only online entries entered through the Awards microsite will be accepted. Please complete as many details of the campaign as possible.

PRIZE

Each category winner will receive the prestigious Telekom Media & Communications Awards 2017 trophy. In addition, the winner of the overall Campaign of the year will have the opportunity to send 6 people to Cannes Lions Festival 2017 – flights, accommodation and entry tickets all paid for!

Attending the festival has been a truly special experience for the winners of 2015 (Magyar Telekom, Hungary) and 2016 (Telekom Deutschland, Germany).
